Neuromodulator Injections Pre- and Post- Treatment Instructions

Thanks you for choosing Tess Walde Nurse Practitioner for your cosmetic and/or therapeutic botulinum treatment. Here are some pre- and post-treatment recommendations to get the most out of your visit!

Anti-Inflammatory/ Blood-Thinning Medications

 

Avoid NSAIDs for 2 weeks prior to your treatment to decrease risk of swelling and bruising after your appointment. 

​If you are on a blood thinner, please discuss with your practitioner prior to your appointment date.

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol at least 24-hours prior to your procedure. 

​Alcohol can affect clotting with increased chance of bruising and/or bleeding. 

​Alcohol use can resume after your appointment.

Active Skincare Products

Retinol, Retinoids (i.e. Retin-A), glycolic acid, beta hydroxy/alpha hydroxy acids (BHA/AHA), vitamin C, and salicylic acid products should be avoided at least 2 days before your treatment. 

You can resume active skincare products 3 days after your neurotoxin treatment.

Exercise & Facial Manipulation

After your treatment, avoid strenuous exercise and activities for at least 6 hours.

Do not massage your treated areas. 

Do not lay flat for at least 4 hours after your treatment. 

Adhering to these recommendations prevents migraion of product from the injected area.

Hair Removal

Don't wax, tweeze, bleach, laser, or use other hair removal products on the treatment area for at least 2 days before treatment to avoid irritation post-treatment. 

You can resume hair removal practices 2 weeks after your treatment date.

Sun Exposure

Avoid sun exposure at least 72 hours after your treatment. 

Sunblock SPF 30+ and a hat is always recommended when out in the sun. 

Supplements

Supplements such as Vitamin E, St. John's Wart, ginseng, and ginko may increase your bruising risk

Discontinue 1 week prior to your appointment.

Medi-Spa Treatments

Book any facial, chemical peel, laser, or microdermabrasion treatments at least 2 weeks after you neurotoxin injections.

Cosmetic and therapeutic neuromodulators such as Dysport or Botox can take up to 2 weeks to disperse and take effect. Manipulation of treatment areas prior to 2 weeks can negatively affect your results.
